The Brave One by vanlubeck The Brave One by vanlubeck
oil on canvas
100 x 50 cm

What do you think? Is the separated one walking in front of the other ones, as a leader? Or is he standing up to a crowd? Did he get a reprimand?

I think he has been ostracised for being different.
Just my thoughts.

Before I saw the title, I thought possibly of the marginalized and the outcast, or even those who feel they have to be separate and different to be valuable... as if it were not this one's choice to be depriviledged. I think that came from the idea of them being trees, rooted in the place where seeds happen to fall similar to the socioeconomic class or ethnicity into which we are born...

Very interesting piece.

I don't know how, but I feel the "power" that radiates from this drawing, maybe it's the strong symbolism, maybe the lighting... Or maybe everything connected together so well, I love it :)

Well it's about Jesus and the cross actually. There were three trees. One became the cradle I believe that Jesus was born in, the second was the boat/ship that Jesus was on through the crazy storm where all the people lived through, and the last tree was the cross that they had him die on. I haven't read the story in a while, so I might be off on the first two.
