Artist's Comments

oil on canvas, 120x80 cm.

These are actually not poplar trees but the nesting colonies of the sociable weavers in the Kalahari desert. The weaver birds build their nests in high trees or in this case man made poles. The nesting material is harvested by local farmers to be sold as an industrial fire retardant and gets it's color from the nearby Red dunes.
Although not immediately obvious, the focal point in this work is the little spy hole looking through to the other end of the forest.

I didn't find the little light on the other side of the forest the focal point...I loved the pattern of the trees, the line they make across the page....the light was a nice Hey! surprise.

I like the sense of unity and rhythm on this piece. Your focal point could be enhance a bit more, but I like the overall concept. :)

Awesome work; the tree-lines are so straight, they look like match-stick tips or paint-brushes. And the focal-point is a nice touch.
